Tucker File Structure

Description of Departmental Folders:

AdminServices – Includes basemaps and project requests from the City Manager’s Office, HR, City Clerks Office, Finance, Tourism, and Purchasing. This folder also includes requests from the Mayor and City Council.

codeEnforcement - Includes one-off projects completed for the Code Enforcement sub-department.

communications – Includes basemaps and project requests from the Communication Department

GIS – Typically stores projects initiated from the GIS department or IT/GIS management. For example, this folder includes such projects as GIS Day poster/presentation data, quality control tasks, and miscellaneous continuous tasks (e.g. web application development, python scripts, test projects).

Parks – Includes basemaps and project requests from the Parks and Recreation Department.

PlanningZoning – Includes basemaps and project requests from the Community & Economic Development department.

Scanned Docs - This is the default folder used when utilizing the large-format scanner’s scan to network feature.

GIS Department Folder Descriptions:

ArcServer – Contains all the MXDs that are used to create the mapping services for ArcServer deployment. This folder also holds Geoprocessing tools, help documents, print templates and other information used to support the ArcServer web applications. In Tucker’s case, most of these items are actually hosted on MosaicGIS.

Custom – Contains template address locators, layer files, mxd templates, and customized geoprocessing tools.

Development - Stores all files related to custom web applications, python scripts, or other application development items.

GeoData – this folder contains vector and raster data that is not project specific, but has not been uploaded to the Local Government Data Model on SDE.

Projects – The Projects folder contains a folder for each map request, analysis, or data that is requested by the department. Each year a new folder will be created to hold that years project requests.

Reference Docs – Contains general GIS documentation like Standard Operating Procedures(SOP), City Logo graphics, white papers, help documents, presentations, etc.

SoftwareTools – Stores all tools, software, plug-ins, and extensions.

SourceData – All new data received by the GIS Department will be places in this folder until the data is QC’d and a suitable place for the data is identified(i.e. loaded into SDE.) Once a suitable place is identified the data will be moved to that new location. The original data received will always reside in the folder. This allows us to keep a version of the data in the same state in which we received the data, in case we need to go back to the original data for any reason.

statusReports - Archived status reports in .docx format. This template was used before adopting the 15Five platform.

template - This is a soon to be archived folder containing the original ArcGIS Pro project file for all of the City’s basemaps. Long-term, the individual map and layer tempaltes will be moved into individual project files within the PlanningZoning folder.

Other Folder Descriptions:

The non-GIS department folders are generally broken up into two folders, Basemaps and Projects.

Basemaps – Basemaps are a series of standard maps and information displaying fundamental datasets maintained by the various city departments. Basemaps are typically requested to be printed on a regular basis by council members, staff, and citizens. Typically, the entire city is represented on these basemaps, streets, zoning, and police beats are examples of basemaps.

Projects - Same as above, the Projects folder contains a folder for each map request, analysis, or data that is requested by the department. Each year a new folder will be created to hold that years project requests.
